2019 Oakville Cuvée Christiane
The Vineyard: The Oakville Station is part of one of the most historic vineyards in Oakville and is located due west of the Welcome to Napa sign in the heart of the Napa Valley (originally named Hermosa but changed to TK by Hamilton Crabb in 1880). Wine Spectator recently rated the Oakville To Kalon vineyard (which includes the Oakville Station) number one in the US and number two in the world just under Domaine de la Romanee-Conti.
The Wine: A beautifully balanced Bordeaux-style blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Cabernet Franc13%, Merlot and 6% Malbec.
Aging: Aged for 40 months in custom-made French oak barrels. Only four barrels produced.
Tasting Notes: The 2019 Cuveé Christiane is a Bordeaux-style blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Malbec. The nose of this wine reveals a healthy dose of charred black cherries. The entry is youthful black cherry cola with limestone grittiness. Full bodied expression of a powerful 2019 vintage from Oakville. A little bit of tobacco leaf, green pepper, and green olive. The best part about this wine is the finish. There is definitely a youthful tannin that sits on the back of the tongue for a solid 2 minutes. This wine is definitely drinkable now, but holding it for 10-15 years is something this Cuveé can take without breaking a sweat.
