BREAKING NEWS
We are delighted to announce that once again Spoto Family Wines in collaboration with lead guitarist, Robin Zander from the iconic bank Cheap Trick will again partner in a second vintage of "Surrender".
"Surrender" is a single by Cheap Trick released in June 1978 from the album Heaven Tonight. It was the first Cheap Trick single to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number 62.
The stellar caliber of the wine will be repeated as it was in 2021 due to the attention to detail that the Spoto's convey with all their low-volume vintages. Only one barrel will be produced.
If it's anything like our first vintage this wine will not last long. The first opportunity for purchase goes to our wine club members.
The Back Story of the Spoto Family Wines & Robin Zander, lead guitarist of the iconic band Cheap Trick came to be:
Spoto Family Wines, an ultra-boutique, third-generation, family-owned and operated small production winery handcrafting premier wines from legendary vineyards in the Napa Valley, announced today its partnership with Robin Zander, American singer, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist best known as the lead singer for the iconic rock band Cheap Trick. Named after one of the band’s many “Billboard Hot 100” songs, the “Surrender” Spoto-Zander 2017 Oakville Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $175) is rock ’n’ roll approved and sure to be a chart-topper.
“We’ve been huge fans of Robin and the band for years and have discussed launching a label together for some time as we both have a passion for winemaking and music and wanted to bring together those two elements that make life so enjoyable,” said Stuart Spoto, winemaker and owner of Spoto Family Wines. “To have this wine bottled and ready for people to enjoy is truly a dream come true for us both. We simply can’t imagine doing this with anyone else and cannot wait for people to try it while listening to some of the best rock music of our time.”
Robin Zander shares his love for animals with Christy Spoto who is a longtime supporter/donor, Puppy Raiser, & Breeder Caretaker for Canine Companions having raised 5 service dogs to date. Together Robin & the Spoto's have announced that proceeds from the sales of the “Surrender” Special Reserve Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon will benefit Save the Elephants to help protect the threatened animals.
Aged four years in a custom-made Tonnellerie Leroi French oak barrel, “Surrender” is a perfectly balanced Bordeaux-style Cabernet consisting of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, and 2% Malbec. The Oakville Station, where the grapes were sourced, is part of one of the most historic vineyards in Oakville, located west of the “Welcome to Napa” sign in the heart of the Napa Valley.
“For over 40 years, I’ve tasted wines from all over the world and I’ve always dreamed of one I could call my own, but it had to be of the highest integrity,” said Zander. “After visiting the Spoto’s home and winery in Sacramento years ago, we’ve had many conversations about creating a label together that celebrates great American winemaking and rock ’n’ roll and we finally found the right time to launch with the release of ‘Surrender.’ Believe me, this wine will rock your world and it was worth the wait.”
A stand-out vintage from Napa Valley, the 2017 wine is intense, rich, dark, and delicious.
Deep garnet-purple in color, it offers lifted black cherry preserves, black raspberries, warm cassis, and red currant jelly with touches of dried herbs, potpourri, and dusty soil. The palate is full, firm, fine-grained, and jam-packed with fragrant black fruit preserves, finishing long and perfumed. With just 25 cases produced, the “Surrender” Spoto-Zander 2017 Oakville Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon is now available for purchase via Spoto Family Wines website, www.spotowines.com.
In 2021 the launch of Surrender sparked a unique event at the property of Stuart and Christy Spoto called “Uncorked & Unplugged” with Robin Zander. Robin's acoustical presentation of many of his famous songs, including of course "Surrender" entertained the exclusive group that were in attendance.
